Indianapolis Colts were successful in winning the AFC championship when they beat New England Patriots 38-34. This means that the Colts will now head for the Super Bowl where they will clash with NFC champions, Chicago Bears.
Earlier Chicago Bears registered a thumping win over New Orleans Saint, winning the NFC championship 39-14.
Sensational performance by quarterback Peyton Manning made it possible for Colts to defeat the Patriots. Till the halftime, Patriots were way ahead of the Colts and no one thought that the Colts would be able to come up with the spectacular display of play the way they did. All credit goes to Manning, who with his brilliant display and acrobatic skills, inspired the entire team to collectively work towards winning.
Along with Manning, Joseph Addai was also involved in scripting this win. Although Patriots did try to fight back but all their efforts were in vain.
After the game, Manning said that the Colts were ecstatic and now had a feeling that they had a realistic chance of winning the Super Bowl.
Meanwhile, in the other match, New Orleans had a dream season this year, which ended in a disastrous note. A superlative performance from Bears’ linebacker Brian Urlacher, who was ably supported by Robbie Gould with 3 field goals and Thomas Jones, put the match out of reach for the Saints’.
Urlacher, after the match said that he was happy with the way team collectively responded when it mattered the most.
The Super Bowl game between the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears will be held in Miami on February 4, 2007.
