Come Experience Maine Attractions Next Vacation

Are you planning your next vacation? Looking for a getaway that has adventure, and plenty of attractions for tourists? Then you simply must come experience Maine!

Of course there are so many attractions that one article simply couldn’t cover them all but a quick search online will provide you with many websites dedicated to the attractions of Maine. We are however going to share some of our favorite places to visit in Maine.

The Penobscot Marine Museum is located in Searsport Maine and is dedicated to preserving the history maritime history in Maine and in Penobscot Bay. The museum is like its own village comprised of 13 historic buildings including the homes of former Captains of the sea. There is an amazing amount of documentation and photographs from times gone by and it’s a great experience for young and old.

Hunnewell Valley is a historic New England farm that is home to off road events throughout the year. There is quite a contrast between the roaring engines and the sound of the flowing water from Carrabassett River. It’s an exhilarating experience that you should be sure not to miss.

There are also some excellent amusement parks in Maine starting with Palace Playland which is located on the beach at Old Orchard Beach. Here you’ll find Ferris wheels, coasters, and a beautiful old carousel. There’s even Kiddieland for the youngsters and a giant arcade to keep you busy.

Splashtown USA combines an amusement park with a water park and its home to the oldest wooden roller coaster the Excalibur voted one of the top 10 coasters in the world. There’s a terrific selection of rides, arcade games, water sports, and places to eat. There’s even a gift shop.

Village Park, Aquaboggan Park, and York’s wild Kingdom are three other amusement parks in Maine that are definitely work visiting. Village park has plenty of kid’s rides. Aquaboggan has bumper boats, a giant wave pool and water slides. York’s Wild Kingdom combines a theme park with a zoo. Spend a day or a week depending on the time you have.

While in Maine why not take in some ocean recreation. Take a tour on a lobster boat, go whale watching, or deep sea fishing. Rock N’ Reel Sport Fishing Charters, Trina Lyn Fishing Charter, and Steve Brettell all offer fishing charters. Saco Bay Sailing offers sailing excursions and Gone with the Wind offers kayak rentals.

You can take a cruise with Bay View Cruises, Casco Bay Line, Coast Watch & Guiding Light Navigation, and Atlantic Exposure Cruise & Charter all offer a variety of cruises. Just as their names indicates Lucky Catch Lobstering and Scenic Lobster Boat Cruise will let you experience lobster catching first hand. Old Port Mariner Fleet, Cape Arundel Cruises, and Whale Watch offer scenic cruises, whale watching, and deep see fishing.

If wildlife interests you then be sure to visit some of the many parks and wild life refuges in Maine. Why not start with Ferry Beach State Park which is comprised of 117 acres of natural trails and beach.

Scarborough Marsh Nature Center is Maine’s largest salt marsh and the best exploring is done by canoe. Go alone or take a guided tour. The Marine Wildlife Park is home to cougars, eagles, deer, moose, bear, and plenty of other wildlife. Explore the many natural trails and who knows you might even meet some of the local animals.

Maine is well known for its lighthouses and while in Maine be sure to take in this unique experience. After all how often do you get to visit a lighthouse?

Cape Elizabeth Lights State Park is home to two lighthouses which sit atop the rocky cliff. Goat Island Lighthouse was built way back in 1834 and is best seen from Cape Porpoise Pier. Wood Island Lighthouse is also a breathtaking view.

Portland Headlight and Museum is the best for a couple of reasons. It’s the oldest lighthouse in Maine and you actually get to go in the lighthouse which is now home to a museum and park. Don’t miss this spectacular view and experience!

The list of things to do and see in Maine could go on and on. It’s one of the most interesting states to visit with plenty of history, attractions, family events, and a great nightlife too! So can we expect to see you in Maine soon?
