Let us imagine that you are in Edinburgh to attend a few business meetings. You will be staying here for one or two days. You will need to travel quite a lot within the city. These car rental firms give you a car of your choice against certain amount of rent. As far as car renting is concerned it is wise to book the car in advance to get a good car rental rate. These rates are very fickle and they go up and come down due to time of year and season. And if you wish to cancel your booking you can easily do it by calling the agent.

These days, car rentals have become very popular because of its advantages over bus and taxi services. You can move freely wherever you like without bothering about time. But there are one or two things you have to ensure when you hire a car on rent. Firstly you should negotiate on the rental which includes mileage rate and the traveling area. Lastly if you notice any scratches dents etc. on the car tell your agent immediately otherwise the cost of damage will be passed on to you.

You don’t need to have any personal auto insurance for renting a car. Though car rental service providers do ask if you are interested in personal insurance policy for the period of car rental. Since you have your own insurance coverage confirm from your insurance agent if you are covered for car rentals. If you have coverage there is no need to buy another policy.

It is of course compulsory to have a valid driving license. If you don’t have a license then you cannot rent a car. There are car rental firms which will reserve your car against a major credit card but allow you to pay in cash if you like. Another point to keep in mind is that car hire firms don’t rent cars to people who are less than 25. If you are underage you will need an older friend or relative to sign the contract on your behalf.

You have to confirm beforehand whether you will be charged on daily, weekly or monthly rent. It is always better to look around to find the best deal and rent the right car. When you go to pick up the car ensure that you have read the contract and you don’t have any doubts, also ensure that you have your papers and your auto insurance policy with you.
