The Popularity of NCAA Basketball

NCAA stands for the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Baseball, softball, football, wrestling, swimming, tennis, cheerleading, and basketball are just a few of the many NCAA sports programs available at colleges all across the country. Each sport has their own fan following; however, NCAA basketball is perhaps one of the most popular of the NCAA sports.

Fans of NCAA basketball come from all different walks of life. NCAA basketball fans can be men, women, children, male, female, old or young. No matter what their age is it is evident that NCAA basketball has developed a fairly large fan following.

A common reason why many individuals cheer for and support a particular NCAA basketball team is because they or someone they know went to that college. It is likely that a college student may have attended a number of basketball games during their time at college. This makes it easy for an individual to continue watching the basketball team that they had previously grown to love and respect.

Many other NCAA basketball fans support their local college teams. Sometimes supporting a local college basketball team not only supports the players, but the community as well. Fans who follow a local sports team are more likely to be able to watch a live game without having to travel a long distance. Many colleges have also been known to offer their area residents discounted admission tickets.

Aside from local fans it is also common for a number of individuals to enjoy watching a particular NCAA basketball team that is located all the way across the country. This is often possible due to television or sports radio. A large number of NCAA basketball games are broadcasted on national television shows or on the radio.

Many professional sporting events tend to be aired only in the area that is near the teams that are playing; however, NCAA sports are not broadcasted in the same way. The majority of games that air on national television are popular and high ranking teams. For local coverage of other games it may be possible to find a local radio station that is airing the action.

NCAA basketball is also fun to watch because many of the players have a chance of making it to the NBA. The NBA is the National Basketball Association and it is where some of the best basketball players in the country end up playing. It is exciting for a fan to watch a team favorite be drafted into professional basketball. Although the NCAA and NBA are not directly related they both seem to help each other increase the number of fans that they have.

NCAA basketball may be increasing in popularity; however, it is a sport that has always been popular right from the start. Each game night thousand of individuals fill stadiums across the country and many fans tune in from the comfort of their own homes. Whatever the reason for watching NCAA basketball it is something that many fans want to watch on a regular basis.
