Boating safety is not rocket science, and if you exercise common sense and do some planning ahead of your boating excursion, you should be able to have safe boating experience. The reality is that, generally speaking, most folk that are preparing for a day out on the water forget this and do not tend to focus on the safty issues at all. Boating is all about having a great time whilst on the water but there is no reason to forget about the risks involved and how you may be risking your life, and maybe others, when doing so.

Plan The Voyage.

The premier tip that you will be told is to plan the voyage before leaving and to have full knowledge of your destination, the skill level of the people you are going with and when you are returning back to base. An additional important safety measure is to ensure that your craft is seaworthy especially of you are only intending to go for a short voyage or you have any small nagging doubts. Start off by making sure that there is at least the minimum level of safety equipment onboard, then thoroughly run through checks on the engine and lastly ensure that the craft is not overloaded. As well as the afforementioned points you should also carry extra fuel onboard in an external canister and also carry a basic toolkit it case of engine malfunction. Another boating safety tip is to always have a Person Floatation Device or PFD for everyone on board and having a floating cushion is also recommended. In addition, you need to have a proper fire extinguisher and makes sure that your battery is properly charged and the bilge pump works properly.

There Are Some Issues You Are In Control Of And There Are Some You Are Not.

We have looked at the things that you are in control of now lets look at something that you aren't. If you are confronted with a thunderhead what are you going to do? Don't try running from it but turn 90 degrees from the storm's direction. And, when the storm hits you makes sure that you have stowed away all loose gear and point the bow of the boat at the storm and have the engine powered enough sufficiently to handle the action of the high waves. Taking all these boating tips safety into account and with the right precautions taken, there is no reason why you can’t enjoy your boating experience and stay safe and protected as well.
