Are You Having Stomach Troubles?

Your stomach spends a great deal of time working at digesting everything you put in your mouth and sometime it can get just a little bit cranky when it doesn’t like your food choices. Are you having stomach troubles? Here are some great tips to keep your stomach happier.

If you tend to eat 3 big meals a day change to several small meals a day. Your digestive tract will have a much easier time of it and your stomach will be much less likely to rebel. And there’s an added bonus. Eating several small meals is better for the waste line too meaning the calorie intake is used up and less likely to deposit itself as fat.

Whether you have stomach problems or not you should try to avoid greasy foods and fried foods. They simply aren’t good for you and for some people they cause upset stomach. If you are going to eat fatty foods then eat small portions and make sure you eat enough complex carbs with them. Complex carbohydrates are found in fruits and vegetables.

Milk intolerance has become quite common so if you have stomach problems and you consume dairy products you should try alternatives to see if this helps. Soy milk or almond milk are good substitutes to try. If your stomach problems recede you’ll want to continue a milk substitute program.

If however milk does not bother you then be sure to get plenty of it! But always buy skim milk or low fat to keep your fat intake down. Yogurt is also very good for you and there are some great flavor choices available.

You need to make a habit to not eat after 8 o’clock at night and don’t get up during the night to eat. Just like the rest of your body needs to rest to rejuvenate so does your stomach and eating too late does not allow your stomach the chance. If you experience reflux after going to bed prop yourself so that your head is lower than your stomach to keep food content in the stomach.

Drink at least 10 glasses of water a day. Water is a win win for the entire body. It keeps your skin healthy and clear, it helps detoxify the kidneys and it helps the digestion process. And water does mean water. Not soda, not sweetened juice, not milk. Just plain water.

Exercise regularly will help your entire body stay healthy and it will help the digestive process. You should try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise everyday. Walking is one of the easiest and most beneficial exercises there are. No special equipment, no special gym memberships. Just a good pair of walking shoes and your body is all that is required.

Depending on the type of stomach problems you are having there are several over the counter products that may help. All are designed for short term use and if the problems persist you must see your doctor.

Products like Zantac ® or Pepcid ® reduce reflux, Tums are great for heartburn, and Pepto Bismol ® helps with stomach upset and diarrhea, and Imodium ® helps with diarrhea. And charcoal is an excellent natural supplement that helps with all of the above .

If you are having stomach troubles try to determine the cause, try an over the counter medicine that fits your symptoms, but if the stomach problems continue don’t delay seeking medical help as it could be a more serious condition.
