We have all heard of the popular saying nice guys finish last. That saying has literally been around for ages and can apply to a large number of situations. It is often commented that nice guys finish last in sporting events, popularity contests, and in relationships.
The most common time that the popular saying is used involves the relationship that many men have with women. For some reason it appears that many women are attracted to men who enjoy adventurous or dangerous activities. This leaves a population of men wondering what about themselves.
There are a lot of characteristics that go into determining whether a man is truly nice or not. One of the most common sings that a guy is nice is that they are kind and compassionate to another human being. Relationship wise nice guys are often those who open doors for their dates, pull out their chairs, and pay for dinner.
Do the above mentioned scenarios sound like something that should occur on a date? It used to be common knowledge that a man should open doors for their dates and so on; however, it does not occur as often as it used to. Most would assume that a woman loves to be treated like a queen, so why are a large number of women leaving the nice guys behind?
Another common situation where the phrase nice guys finish last is used is in businesses. In a work world that is often termed as “dog eat dog.” Many individuals, job seekers, or company employees are left trying to make their way up the company ladder. On this trip up the ladder it is highly likely that other employees may be hurt along the way.
Unfortunately it is becoming more and more common for workers to only be watching out and acting in the best interest of themselves. Although many employers still search for workers who can be team players there are others who are seeking competitive individuals who are only out to succeed no matter what the costs.
A nice guy in the workplace may be deemed as an individual who thinks about the emotions or feelings of others before speaking. A nice guy may also be less willing to purposely destroy the work of another employee to benefit themselves. Although nice guys are often good-natured they are sometimes labeled as being bad for business.
Another common scenario where the phrase nice guys finish last is applied involves sports. It is not common for a sports team to win based on players who are willing to go the extra mile or push the envelope. Some players may even be willing create penalties to work to their advantage.
It is hard to determine if the phrase nice guys finish last actually has some truth to it or not. In some situations it is apparent that nice guys do finish last; however, that is not always the case. There area large number of kind, nice, and hardworking guys who succeed in business, relationships, and in life.
