Famous Greek Gods

Greek gods are a giant part of Greek mythology. This mythology is a collection of stores that tells the lives of a number of important individuals in the Greek era. These individuals include a number important gods and goddesses.

The Greek gods are all separated into four main groups. These groups are known as the Titans, the Olympians, The Chthonians, and the Free Spirits. These groups are used to classified a number of gods for their purpose, but also from the era of their time.

Perhaps the most well known group of Greek gods are those of the Olympians. This group of gods and goddesses are one of the first groups learned about in many schools across the country. Popular gods and goddesses from this group include Apollo, Athena, Hermes, Poseidon, and Zeus.

Apollo is most known for being the gods of the arts. These arts mostly included music and poetry. Athena is most known as being the goddess of war and wisdom. She regularly led and guided warriors on their path. Hermes looked over sports and businesses. He is also classified as being a messenger to Zeus.

Zeus is known as the ruler of the Olympians. He is also commonly referred to as the ruler of the sky. In addition to being a ruler, Zeus was also father to a number of the above mentioned Olympian gods or goddesses. Hermes, Apollo, and Athena were all his offspring. Ancient stories tell a unique story concerning Zeus and his daughter Athena. The story reads that he gave birth to his own daughter.

The Titans are a group of Greek gods or goddesses who were around before the Olympians. In fact many of the famous Greek Titian gods or goddesses are parents to Olympian gods. Famous Titan Greek gods and goddesses include Atlas, Hyperion, Kronos, Leto, and Okeanos.

Okeanos is known as the god of the water. Leto is the Greek goddess who gave birth to multiple Olympians including Apollo. Kronos is most noted for being a god who castrated his own father. Atlas was the Titian god who helped lead the Titans in battle against the Olympians a battle which they later lost.

The Chtonians gods and goddesses were known as rulers of the underworld. These gods and goddesses included Hades and Thanatos. Thanatos was known as the god of death. Hades was the ruler of the dead and he was also known as the ruler of the underworld.

The gods and goddesses of the free spirits are basically gods and goddesses who did not have another set place in Greek history. These gods and goddesses included Dike, Boreas, Eileithyia, Fates, Helios, and more. These gods presided over everything including childbirth, justice, fate, the sun, and more.

All of the above mentioned Greek gods and those not mentioned above all have an amazing place in Greek mythology and history. Not all Greek gods and goddesses are taught in schools because it would literally take forever to educate students on each of them. Once learning about Greek gods many students become more interested and begin their own study.
