Rock Climbing Holds: Pull Yourself To The Top.

By: JohnMailerM

When you go rock climbing, you need rock climbing holds in order to get a good grip on the rock and to pull yourself up with. Rock climbing holds are, in the real world, certain formation of rocks that you use to get good footholds and also good handholds so that you can maneuver yourself towards the top of whatever rock you are climbing.

Practice Rock Climbing Safely In A Controlled Environment

Of course, in the controlled, studio setting, there are rock climbing walls built inside that help you practice rock climbing safely. The rock climbing holds are manufactured and they are placed sporadically across the rock climbing wall to teach you how to use them properly. If you’ve ever watched someone climbing one of these manufactured rock climbing walls, you’ll notice that sometimes the rock climbing holds are different colors. They are usually like that because certain rock climbing holds are easier while some aren’t. The colors indicate the skill level. Some aren’t different colors and are painted to look like actual rock. The uses of them are the same; you want to use the rock climbing holds to pull yourself to the top.

Using rock climbing holds seems like it would be easy but it’s not by any means. You need to use focus and concentration in order to scale the wall. The rock climbing holds need to be used properly, they need to be gripped properly, so that you don’t slip and fall. However, it is a controlled environment so that, if you do fall, a harness will catch you. These rock climbing walls are perfect for learning what you’re supposed to learn so that once you decide to try your hand at the real thing, you’ll realize how important it was to learn how to look for and utilize the holds.

Rock climbing holds in the real world are merely certain crevices in the rock that you can put your foot or hand into to pull you up. Sometimes, if no crevices are available, and, hence, no holds are available, the rock climber will have to create his or her own. A pick axe will usually assist with this. Merely chipping at the wall will create the desired rock climbing holds so that you always have a way to get higher, which, of course, is the ultimate goal.

If you’ve never tried rock climbing before, you should really consider getting lessons. In the controlled environment, it’s safe and fun and you have nice rock climbing holds created specially for you and your skill level. You never know, you may find that once you’re on that wall, you’ll know you’d rather not be anywhere else.
