Upcoming Fashion Trends among Golf and Tennis

By: Grant Eckert-

When most people think of fashion trends, they think of the runway, not the fairway or the tennis court. But if you've been watching the US Open or Wimbledon, you may have noticed a more stylish manner of play. From Venus Williams to Tiger Woods, everyone is looking to change their game by changing the way they dress. Is it helping them play better? Only you can decide. It's certainly making the play more enjoyable to watch.

Hats on Top

When it comes to men's golf, it's no secret that hats are big news. But it seems like everyone is going the route of Tiger with baseball style caps. These hats not only protect the face from sun, but they also keep sweat out of the eyes and the glare out of determining the next shot. And women are getting in the act too. However, many women are opting for the less structures visor solution, helping them pull back their hair up and off the shoulders while also protecting their face.

Capri Pants for Everyone

For women, Capri pants seem to be the latest answer to the boring pants of golf's past. These shorter versions of traditional length pants still look professional on the course, but allow for more air circulation and a little bit of style. These pants can be worn with any type of top and help the golfer move a little more easily as they are walking the course. On those hotter days, anything that can give you more of a breeze may also give you more of an edge.

A More Relaxed Attitude

Overall, men and women are finding that golf fashion is turning to more casual pieces rather than the stuffier choices of the past. By letting the golfers focus more on their game and less on their dress, there have begun to be more style statements on the course, but also fewer traditional outfits.

Dressing Up for the Court

In the tennis tourney, you've probably noticed a few strange new trends in play. For example, Roger Federer's warm up suit caused quite a stir at Wimbledon. This white loose fitting suit was worn by Federer as he walked onto the court, but then detached easily to reveal the traditional whites for the tournament. And most people believed it gave him the advantage over other players.

That said, the Williams sisters came out strong with their short white shorts and white dresses in their matches. These ever stylish sisters are the ones to watch if you're looking for the latest and greatest styles. In tournaments without color restriction, you'll find them in the brightest colors possible - making them stand out to their opponents.

Designers Get on the Tennis Court

And it's no wonder that tennis has gotten more stylish since more popular designers are creating athletic lines. You can find many of these styles through major athletic brand websites, but also in sporting goods stores. These styles are ever changing, while also keeping the limitations of the competitions in mind. You can find styles that are funky and bright, while also completely functional for running back and forth on the court.

When it comes to golf and tennis, there may be some rules of style that need to be followed, but that doesn't mean that you can't look good while you're doing it - especially when you're not headed to the US Open or to Wimbledon. Try a few new colors, some different pant lengths and other hot trends to see if you might shave the strokes off your game or perhaps hit that ace right when you need it.
