Basketball is almost no fun without the popular dunking, as it attracts the cries of joy from the supporters. Of course, it is not all about putting on a show, but also about scoring on the table. And what can be more rewarding for a player than an exciting game in which he can score, while being applauded by the spectators? But great dunking requires great dunking skills and great dunking skills require great discipline. The professional basketball players may make it look so easy, but behind that there is a lot of work and exercise for higher jumps and stronger legs.
A perfect dunk cannot be achieved without a high, spectacular jump. It may sound elementary and it really is, but making higher jumps is all about making performance. A dunking jump needs that the basketball player has a good agility and strong, powerful legs which will apply the necessary force to the jump.
So your purpose, as a basketball player that wants to let the audience in awe, is to achieve a great high jump for a perfect dunk. Remember, you need discipline and exercise if you want to acquire this.
Here are some exercises that will make your legs stronger and more able to help you during a dunk. The best part about legs exercises is that you do not need to spend the whole day at the gym, as you can make them almost anywhere you are needed to stay upwards.
One of the exercises will work like this: while standing firmly with your soles on the ground, start lifting yourself on your toes, then get back. Do that for several times.
Jumping exercises are always good for having stronger legs. Jump up and down, but, at first, do not try to perform higher and higher jumps.
Do not forget about jogging, as it is a great exercise for your legs, but also for your cardiovascular system.
Use a jumping rope to exercise and improve your jumping abilities.
Last, but not least, make some stretching exercises. Your muscles do not only need to be pushed to gain more strength, they also need relaxation and improved blood circulation.
Basketball cannot be played without proper shoes. Try to find a comfortable and good pair of sports shoes that will contribute to your performance. Imagine how you would play with uncomfortable shoes, despite your efforts and skills. So, basketball shoes are a must.
Also, it is great to have a good imagine. When you make a dunk on the basketball field, everybody will see what shoes you wear and you certainly do not want them staring at your old, ugly looking shoes. This can also give you a boost of confidence and therefore agility and inspiration during the game.
Most of all, remember the advantages of positive thinking. A good state of mind will grant you the possibility to enjoy a fun exciting game of basketball and, why not, an amazing dunk that will have the audience standing up.
