At some point in the life of your car, replacement car parts are going to be inevitable to your car’s maintenance. All auto parts are exposed to wear and tear, and thus at some point they are going to need to be replaced. But replacing car parts doesn’t have to cost you a fortune if you know how to shop to get the best prices.
The most common parts that wear are tires, brakes, drums, belts, hoses, exhaust systems, lights, and mufflers to name just a few. While under warranty you may be forced to purchase the manufacturer’s replacement parts, but eventually your warranty will run out and one of the best ways to save money is to purchase after market replacement car parts.
Whether you own a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, GMC, Honda, Toyota, Mazda, BMW, or Mercedes, it really doesn’t matter, there are after market parts available that meet or exceed the manufacturer’s specs.
You can start by checking with local auto part suppliers to see what they have to offer and what there prices are. Then be sure to do some searching online. There are thousands of sites selling high quality parts for a substantial discount.
There are many reasons why they can do this. They may not have a traditional store so their overhead costs might be less, they may sell on a lower price point because they move volume, or they may be purchasing overstocks at a good price and passing those discounts onto you the consumer. Whatever their reason it definitely benefits you.
If you have an older vehicle and you are requiring replacement body parts, interior parts, or mechanical parts you should also consider used parts. Again you can check with your local auto wreckers to see what they have to offer and what their prices are. If you don’t have any luck, because perhaps the part you are looking for is rarer, then by all means check the online used auto parts sites.
What may be rare in your area may no longer be hard to find when you start searching on a global scale. After all different areas of the world have different choices. You should also consider having a look on eBay or any of the other online auction houses. You can get some great buys now and then.
Your biggest concern when buying online is the shipping costs. For example let’s say you need a replacement transmission which you can also purchase locally. You’ll need to know the exact cost for shipping it to you to know where the best value is.
You’ll also want to know what your warranty is. New parts will most certainly have a warranty but you’ll want to understand what the return process is if your part arrives DOA. Do you pay the shipping back? Do they? Do you require an RMA number?
Some used parts can also have a warranty, especially rebuilt parts so be sure to find out what it is, how long it is good for, and what their policies are relating to these parts.
More and more people are looking to restore some of the old classic cars and trucks and one of the easiest places to find hard to find body parts is on the internet. The shipping may be high but if you can’t get the body parts elsewhere then it doesn’t matter. You might also consider using a trucking company rather than a courier. This can often drop the shipping costs dramatically especially if you aren’t in a really big hurry.
So the next time you are looking for car parts whether for your newer vehicle or an old timer, make sure you check online to see what the auto part websites have to offer. You will be pleasantly surprised with selection and pricing.
