Today, like every other day, I woke up at 7:30 and at 8 am y was sitting in front of my monitor. Still half asleep, I opened my favourite browser and automatically typed https://www.google.com/adsense, just like when you get into a car and start it without even thinking what you have to do (put in the key, step on the clutch, put the gear in neutral, etc.) and saw the site cannot be found message.
Well, I said, it must be a failure in the connection, or something in the operating system of my PC., so I pressed F5 and yes... once again the site cannot be found message.
8:10 - I start to feel the effects of abstinence of not being able to see my AdSense stats.
8:15 - My blood starts circulating faster, I go to google.com to see what is happening and once again site cannot be found.
8:16 - F5 again with no results.
8:17 - Gmail isnt working, neither is GTalk, its very worrying.
8:19 - I start to go through webmaster forums and I find a somber scenario, the sad news that google is down today. 3rd smoke of the day.
8:30 - I check my websites and see that the Ads by Google are gone. My heart is about to burst.
8:40 - Google News isnt working.
8:41 I want to comment what is going on and Blogger.com is down. 4th smoke.
8:45 - Google Calendar isnt working, Ive lost my appointments
9:00 - Total resignation GOOGLE and none of its services is working... now what do I do??????
This narration is fictitious but ... can anyone imagine a day without Google?
Would we know what to do?
Where to look?
Would we trust the results provided by an alternative search engine?
Our domains that expire and we have to renew.
Has anybody thought how much our lives in the internet depend on Google?
What would happen if Google services, that are now free, would stop being so?
I dont think that this will happen, but we should always have alternatives... like my grandma used to say... dont put all your eggs in one basket.
Luckily, in my imagination, I still dont see the famous message... Powered by Google.
Google Is Down
