If your favorite sport is golf then you may want to decorate your baby's nursery with golf crib bedding. If this is the case you may find it difficult to find pre-made baby bedding that has this theme. To overcome this obstacle you may need to create your own bedding using fabric, golf accessories, and possibly even golf clothing.
An easy way to create golf crib bedding is to make a bandana quilt. The first step for creating a bandana quilt is to find bandanas that have a golf theme. You may be able to find these at novelty stores, department stores, fabric stores, or even in sporting goods stores. Generally bandanas are a 12 inch by 12 inch square, and a typical baby quilt is a 36 inch by 48 inch rectangle. This means that you will need twelve bandanas for the front of your quilt. Now you can either buy a solid piece of fabric for the back of your quilt or you can use another 12 bandanas the choice is yours. In addition to your bandanas and fabric your will also need to by quilt batting, thread, pins, and binding.
Once you return home with your materials you will want to lay out your bandanas to see how you want to assemble your golf crib bedding quilt. Next pin two bandanas together so that their printed sides are facing each other. Then sew down one seam so that they are connected. This will create a clean edge when you turn the bandanas right side out again. Press the bandanas on their printed side along the sewed seam to make it crisp. Repeat this process so that all of the bandanas in the first across row are sewn together. Do the same thing for rows 2, 3, and 4. Then sew together these rows to form the quilt panel for the front of your quilt. If you want bandanas as the back of your quilt as well repeat the above processes for the back panel.
The next step in assembling your golf crib bedding quilt is to measure and cut out the backing for your quilt. You will want your backing to be the same size as your front panel, so in this case that will be 36 inches by 48 inches. Next cut your batting to the same size or slightly small as your other panels. Once the backing and batting are cut to size place the batting on the wrong side of your front panel and then pin the back to the front with the printed side facing each other. In other words you want to wrong sides of both material panels to be facing out, and have the batting on top of the front panel so that if you looked at your quilt after it has been pinned you will have a layer of batting, the front panel face down, and then the back panel face up. This is because after you stitch around most of the quilt you will turn it inside out. After pinning you will want to sew around edge 1, 2, and 3 completely, and about of the 4th edge. After sewing you will turn the quilt inside out making surethat the batting ends up in the center of the quilt. Turn the unsown section of the quilt under and finish closing the quilt up.
To finish your golf crib bedding quilt you have several options. First you can line the edges of your quilt with the binder material and sew it on to give it a more formal finish look. In addition to adding this touch you can also sew the top layer to the bottom layer following the outline of the bandanas, or you can create your own quilting pattern. The final touches are up to you. Just keep in mind you don't want to add elements that could fall off and cause your baby to choke.
