A lot of people think that the cost of living just naturally goes up; they rarely wonder WHY things cost more than they did ten years earlier. The few people who do put some thought into it think that the cost of buying things increased because manufacturing companies want more profit. Other think that the manufacturers HAVE to increase their prices because the cost of THEIR raw materials has increased, but this would beg the question, why did THEIR costs increase?
