Unintended sudden acceleration is the result of a malfunction in the electronics system of a vehicle that control the powertrain. The fault causes the car's electronic system to open the throttle fully and makes it difficult, if not impossible, for the operator to return the car to idle if it is in gear. The brakes may also become ineffective.
