Even with the best intentions and the best plans it can be difficult to balance work and home life. Our high paced, high stressed, high tech corporate world has continued to place huge demands on our time. Sure on the surface it appears that many women have it all. At a glance it appears that these highly organized women are successfully juggling the corporate world, their family commitments, their time with their children, and still finding time to spend with their spouse and finding some time out for themselves.

The reality is not quite so. Superwomen is infact dead and the reality is that we simply cannot balance it all and still remain healthy and stress free. Eventually the embers that keep our spirit burning begin to burn out. And it seems the more we manage to accomplish the more we try to accomplish placing our self in a precarious position where our responsibilities continue to grow and grow until we find that we’re in the midst of crisis.

Symptoms of burn out are varied. You may suddenly find yourself unable to concentrate, you may find yourself on edge constantly and your temper short or you may find that you are suddenly physically ill. The reality is that we cannot continue operating at superwoman speed day after day, year after year. We simply will burn out!

Some women realize that this overstated work and home life balancing act is extremely difficult and many choose to walk away from their climb up the corporate ladder. Other’s however continue to juggle too many balls until crisis hits.

True balancing means that the mind, body, and soul are all nurtured. It means that you can accomplish your daily activities with ease and have time for all your commitments without feeling like you are being ripped into tiny pieces. It means you have time for you to relax and regenerate.

For those of you that continue to balance the corporate work life with your personal life here are some ways to help you find balance. First you need to feed your spirit on a regular basis. You can do this through meditation, exercise, message, singing, reading, or painting. Find a hobby that is not job related and set aside time to enjoy it.

Just because technology allows us to be connected to our job 24 hours a day doesn’t mean you have to be. Shut off the cell phone, turn of the computer, heck turn the ringer off on your telephone. Lock out the corporate world just for a little while.

Make sure you take your vacation time. Whether you think you need it or not, you do! This will give you some time out to feed your spirit and body, to recharge your batteries giving you a new perspective. And remember if you are finding negative thoughts fill you mind far too much perhaps it’s time for a career change or a job change. If you are experiencing burn out then you need to take time out to regroup and refuel.

Research shows that 75% of us spend at least 25 hours a week thinking about our job when we should be relaxing and enjoying our personal life. It seems it’s becoming increasingly difficult to separate work from play. We tend to create stress for ourselves unnecessarily simply by the demands we place on our selves. Sadly this stress hurts our health and our family life.

If you choose to continue to find balance with your work life and personal life make a commitment to yourself that you will ensure that you have quality time for yourself. This doesn’t have to be long periods just 15 minutes to 30 minutes a day can be enough to keep you stress free and healthy.

When you are less stressed you are happier and more fun to be around. This will benefit you and your family. Balancing work life and home life isn’t easy but it can be done as long as you know your limitations.
