Protective Equipment for Hockey Goalies

Hockey is an extremely popular sport for individuals of all ages. In fact hockey is so popular that there are a number of different variations of hockey. Hockey is most commonly placed on the ice; however, hockey can be played as street hockey or inline roller hokey.

No matter which variation of the sport is being played hockey is a potentially dangerous sport. For this reason it is often recommended or even required that all hockey players wear protective gear while playing. Out of all of the players on the team there is one individual who needs that protection more than others. That player is known as the goalie.

In ice hockey, street hockey, or inline roller hockey the goalie is used to stop the opposing team from scoring. Depending on the level of skill it is possible for hockey player to catapult a hockey puck into the body of a goalie. This is why many hockey goalies are required to wear a fairly large amount of protective gear.

The most common type of protection that a hockey goalie wears is padding. Hockey goalie pads are used to prevent the body from being injured from a hockey puck or another hockey player. Hockey goalie pads can be purchased from a wide variety of different locations for all different body parts.

Perhaps the most important type of goalie pads are those made for the chest. These chest protectors are warn underneath most uniforms and they also offer the upper arms protection as well. These chest protectors protect a hockey goalie from serious chest injuries that could very well result in death.

Hockey goalie leg pads are another common form of protective gear that many hockey goalies wear. The legs pads are used to protect the lower legs and knees from injury. As with all other hockey pads, these legs pads protect a goalie’s from being hurt by another player or the hockey puck.

The job of a goalie is to prevent the hockey puck from entering their goal. Many goalies use their whole body to stop the puck while others use their hands. Many hockey goalies are equipped with hockey gloves or blockers. These items are typically fully padded and they make it easy for a goalie to stop the puck from entering their own goal area.

In addition to the above mention protective padding, it is also required that many goalies wear a protective helmet and mask when competing. The helmets and masks are usually sold together; however, it may be possible for them to be purchased separately. The helmet and masks are used to protect the facial features of the head and the brain from injury.

All goalies playing hockey, whether it be for fun or for competition, are encouraged to wear the above mentioned safety gear for their own protection. Most goalie pads and face masks can be purchased from a hockey supply store, a sports store, or over the internet.
